Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 6: Defense Questions Reliability Of Phone Evidence

True Crime Today | Daily True Crime News & Interviews | 25 sep 2026 | 00:48:06

The Caleb Flynn defense used its cross-examination of Special Agent Joseph Wilhelm to challenge one of the prosecution’s technical evidence streams: the data recovered from the iPhones. The defense framed the digital evidence as unreliable and pressed the idea that jurors should be cautious about what those phone artifacts actually prove.

Wilhelm is a cyber crime investigator and digital-forensics specialist who previously described the extraction process used on Caleb Flynn’s phone. His direct testimony covered digital artifacts including deleted apps, incognito activity, Apple Watch data and other device information. Cross-examination shifted the focus from what was recovered to how much trust the jury should place in it.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege Caleb killed Ashley at their Tipp City home and staged the scene as a home invasion. His attorneys maintain an intruder killed Ashley and investigators focused on Caleb too quickly.

The defense’s questioning was an attack on reliability, not proof by itself that the digital evidence was inaccurate. No specific technical concession establishing that the evidence was unreliable is included in the testimony details provided. The jury will ultimately determine how much weight that evidence deserves.
