Hearing connects us to the world three-dimensionally and emotionally. We hear in 360°, through obstacles, in the dark, even while we're asleep. Lose it, and your sense of presence and your grasp of your surroundings shrink dramatically.
As audio professionals we use sound to tell stories, to enrich images, and to draw an audience in. That sound takes many forms, linear or non-linear, in mono, stereo, surround, spatial and everything between.
Today we discuss a form we sort of knew, but never had a name for: Audio Augmented Reality. Our guest Matias Harju is so deep into this field that he wrote a book about it, Audio Augmented Reality: Concepts, Technologies and Narratives. Far too much for one episode, so we dip our toes in and talk mostly about what you can actually do with it.
