Choose the Light - from poem to psalm to musical

The path of stars is opening to me;
my heart seeks You, O Light.
I lift my eyes toward the light
that You now let me see.

We often choose our own way
and lose the fire within.
But You call softly to my soul,
back to love, to light, to rest.

In me are dust and eternity,
a quiet flame from You.
You waken the light that dwells in me and
call me by my name.

So choose the path that love prepares,
that gentle path that forgives.
Guard my heart from every dark,
from all that draws me from You.

Who does not pardon loses the soul
and turns to stone in night.
But those who choose the light
are free and never walk alone.

O Lord, illumine my final step;
stay always close to me.
Lead me upon the way of grace
and make my heart anew.
