Lonsdaleïet is - net als diamant - één van de allotropen van koolstof, alleen mogelijk 58% harder. Het wordt vooralsnog alleen aangetroffen op plaatsen waar een bepaald soort meteoriet is ingeslagen. Dit mineraal is vernoemd naar de Britse kristallograaf en vredesactivist Kathleen Lonsdale.
